Notes - Original wrappers, Paperbound, Spiral-bound or Stapled (590)

If front or back wrapper is missing, this is noted.

If original wrappers are bound in, this is noted.

Stiff paper covers such as are on paperback books are not described as wrappers; this term is reserved for unreinforced paper covers.

Paperbound is used for paperback books.

If leaves are simply stapled together, describe them as stapled.

Serials

Paperbound, original wrappers, etc. are not usually used with serials. Wrappers are only mentioned when the title on the original wrappers is used for cataloging and some issues do not have the original wrappers any more. Paperbound is only used to distinguish between a paperbound edition and a hardbound edition of a serial.

Stapled or spiral-bound are used in notes when all or some of the issues are stapled or spiral-bound.
