Notes - Illustrated title page (500)

The presence of at least one illustration, other than a vignette, on a title page is noted. Use only for materials from the hand-press period.

Carter, J. ABC for book collectors defines “vignette” as follows: (1) A small ornamental or decorative design, used on a title-page or as a head- or tail-piece to a chapter or a division of a book. (2) Any illustration not enclosed in a border or squared off at the edges but shading away.
