Modifications to Zc52 Classification
Sections of Zc52 relating to the Texas revolution (1835-1836), Annexation (1844-1845) and Impeachment of John Watrous are especially crowded. Add additional lines for these works as instructed below. This class is also crowded in the years 1835 and 1836 for items that have Texas as the main entry. The letters from tb-ty were completely used so it was necessary to go on to tza, tzb, ua, ub, uc, etc. For classifying items that fall outside of these specific areas, follow the general procedures
Format call numbers as follows:
- The first line is the class number
- The second line consists of the date of publication and the first two (or more) letters of the main entry.
- If needed, add third and fourth lines as described in the following table.
Past practice encompasses a variety of approaches; many books in the collection are not classified according to the instructions given here. Generally, do not reclassify unless necessary for collocation.

Official publications
For official publications of Texas prior to statehood, use the “A” Table with the following modifications:
- If the issuing body is Coahuila and Texas (State), the figure 3 is added to the table; e.g. .A163 for session of this period.
- If the issuing body is Texas (Provisional government), add 4 to the table; e.g. A254, Journal of proceedings.
- If the issuing body is Texas (Republic), add 5 to the table; e.g. A325 for the President’s message.
